This project was for some friends. In the late Summer we started this project, a busy family so we fit in the project when it worked for all of us. They had one of those big fancy built in Refrigerators that finally was no longer worth the fix, so they bought the standard fridge which left a nice opening all around.

They decided a new big pantry was needed and we added some storage above the fridge. Here’s what I drew up.

The only issue with this project was finding doors that were exactly the same as the ones they have. We looked everywhere and we couldn’t find them, so we ordered some that were pretty similar that were Maple hardwood. Next up was color matching. Which was nerve wracking, so I went to our local GW Hardware Store and decided to go with General Finishes. I’ve only used their Poly for my dining tables and it’s the BEST poly out there. This was the first time using the stain though and I heard good things.

Let’s build the Pantry.

I used Pre-Finished Maple Plywood for the Pantry, Maple for the face frames and BLUM soft close drawer slides. It’s time to stain the doors.I was pretty nervous about the staining and this was with the first coat. I ended up doing 3 coats of stain.

Here they are after I sprayed the 3 coats of poly. I ended up using the Semi-Gloss. I usually use Satin on my projects, but the cabinet doors had a higher sheen so the semi-gloss was needed. I think they turned out great. I let them sit like this for a week. I wanted to make sure they were really cured.

The final look. It turned out so good! We re-used the moulding at the top of the pantry. Didn’t even have to re-stain it since it matched perfectly. We got it done right before Christmas. Like I said, busy family.☺️
