This was the second quilt I made. It’s called Always Together by Remi Vail Studio and the quilt kit is from Peony Pedal Quilts. This pattern was a lot easier than the last quilt I made, which was nice because I finished it right before Thanksgiving. The backing is a flannel which is nice and cozy and has been reached for more than my other quilt with the cotton backing. I think when the warmer weather hits and I want to cuddle on the couch, it’ll be a quilt with a cotton backing. It’s also been loved by the dogs. Hank is a big fan.

After this I decided I’m going to continue to challenge myself so I ordered 3 more quilt kits. I’ve started 2 out the 3 with one really testing my patience. I should’ve gotten a picture of the bundles, but I guess I was too excited to start.

This quilt kit is by Maechen Marie and the pattern is Campfire Glow by Then Came June. This quilt gave me Tangled vibes because of the color choices, Tangled is my favorite Disney movie so I think that’s why I was so drawn to it. What has been frustrating for me is when things don’t line up. Now with woodworking I can take it apart, sand it, or cut it to make it perfect but with sewing you can take it apart but sometimes it doesn’t line up (pic above) like you want it to. I don’t know all the tricks yet, but as I keep doing this I’m sure I’ll learn. Like with all handmade things, it adds character. Right now this quilt kit needs to be sewn together. I got sidetracked with another kit I purchased that I wanted done by Valentine’s Day.

This quilt is the one that tested my patience. I purchased the quilt kit from Quilty Love and the pattern is Cozy Checkered Hearts by Emily Dennis. I think it tested me because there was very small pieces, like 1×1 pieces. The amount of strips I had to cut was CRAZY! With the second quilt and the strips I had to cut, I learned real quick I was going to purchase a tool I had on my wish list. It’s a slotted quilting ruler that made cutting smaller strips easier. The other thing was this washi tape for sewing, made it easier to make sure I knew I was on track.

The other thing I needed that I made was a Quilt Design Wall. Laying out my patterns on the floor was a pain in the back, also with dogs it’s hard to keep them from coming into my space. I made one out of a foam insulation panel. I cut it down to 7ft and they’re already 4 ft wide so I kept that width and covered it with felt. I just used duct tape on the back to tighten the fabric. I have one more to cover so I can have two side by side for bigger quilts. I just lean is again the closet in our gym/office/sewing room. Worked perfectly! When I’m not using them I plan on sliding them inside the closet.

This quilt isn’t officially done yet, I have to add the batting, backing and then it’ll be done. I did sew it up yesterday though, here’s what it look like. The size is a small throw.

It came out pretty good and it’s by far the hardest one I’ve done. Hopefully within the next week I find a flannel backing that I like and finish it. This had a runner and pillow pattern with it, so I think I might make one of those as well and keep them out for the month of February.
That’s it for now. I’ll post more when I finish up these two and start the third one.
