The Atkinson Table

I didn’t realize how far behind I was on posting all my builds. I know I shared pictures of them on my Instagram and Facebook page, but never posted about them here on our website.

Original Design November 2021 (72″L x 36″W x 30″H)

Both clients that purchased this style have been supporters from the beginning. When I started with just home decor and on to bigger furniture pieces. The design came from inspiration pics and it was my first time building this style, so it was only fitting it be named after the original buyers.

April 2022 ( 108″L x 42’Wx 30″H)

The second time I built it, the style changed just a little. The top was made to look thicker and it was distressed. Also purchased some dining chairs to match the table.Let’s see how they were built.

Stretchers

Both were built with Poplar. The base stretchers were done by laminating with the wood. It’s wood glue and two pieces that were over 2″ thick. I clamp them up and let them sit for 24hrs. Then I take them over to jointer and make them to the thickness I need. There’s more to it, but thats the quick version.

Here’s the base all glued up before sanding.

This top was built a little different. After we built the top, we glued on a piece of poplar and attached it with dominos all the way around to make it appear thicker. For the corners we used these scary clamps.

clamped up

Dry fit looked good, so onto the next step. I like to send a video/picture of the dry fit to before I add color. Just to make sure we’re still on the same page. Sometimes you change your mind after you see it.

A quick video of the table top after staining.

It was time to paint the base along with all the other pieces that needed to be primed, painted and distressed. To all look pretty like this.

You can see I also did the same to other pieces of furniture.

Process of distressing on the dining chairs.

When it’s all done, it looks like this. Both tables were a lot of fun to build

.Maybe in 2025 I’ll make the style again. If you’d like to purchase a table like this, contact us and we’ll get you a quote.
